What’s On In Sydney: Winter Events To Warm The Body & Soul

Essential guide to living sustainably: What's on Sydney, events in winter

While winter is generally the time when we look to hibernate and stay indoors, it’s also the time when some of the most energetic, mindful and creative events come to life.

The best part is that they gives us something to break up the cooler months, while keeping us energised and ready to take on the world (or at least the next Zoom meeting).

So don’t pack away your activewear or yoga mats just yet, here are some events to help warm the body and soul this winter.

A Mindful Morning – May 22

As we come into the cooler months, those of us who get affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (also known as SAD) may start to struggle and feel a bit low. That is where mindfulness and meditation may help.

Australia’s favourite meditation and mindfulness instructor Luke Mcleod, the founder of Virtual meditation studio Soul Alive will be hosting a mindful morning at one of Sydney’s most beautiful venues/locations, The Boathouse at Shelly Beach, Manly.

As part of Mindful May, Soul Alive has decided to offer the opportunity to experience a live-guided meditation with mindfulness teacher, Luke McLeod. It will be a 1-hour event that will include a talk about mindfulness, tips and a meditation as well as a platter of beautiful food. Come an experience this beautiful morning and learn to meditate because winter hits.

Flow After Dark- June 23

Flow After Dark is an event that launched in 2016 and it was such a success that it ended up being hosted nationally. This year they are back, and the these me for the event will be “Awakening” as we reawaken after a year that shook us all up.

Hosted by Australia’s #1 yoga instructor, Kate Kendall, Flow After Dark consists of a very special all levels 90minute vinyasa class; a slow flow with moments of fire and a whole lot of fluidity.  They’ve partnered with Silent Sounds to bring you a one of a kind Silent Disco Yoga event and DJ Jimmy Mack who will be on the decks.

Expect to flow in unison with others, while you completely tune in with yourself. The headphones take all of the external noises out of the picture so you only have you, your music and your thoughts as you flow with everyone else

The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10K/5K- July 25

The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10K/5K is one of the few runs that take place in the middle of winter. It is also a certified flat course to make it enjoyable, there are amazing views and 5K and 10K distance options.

Set against the backdrop of Sydney’s breathtaking harbour, The Real Insurance Sydney Harbour 10K and 5K is the best way to spend a Sunday morning with your friends or family.

The event starts and finishes at The Rocks, one of the most picturesque and historic places in Sydney and most participants enjoy an afternoon day in the city once they are done.

This year you can also expect to see Guy and Jules Sebastian participating as the event has partnered with The Sebastian Foundation who help young Australians manage their mental health through the Open Parachute program which provides in-curriculum, peer-to-peer experience based programs for school students in years 5 to 12.
